IS 1200 – Part 21: Woodwork and Joinery

Scope:
Covers measurement of carpentry, joinery, and wood-based items like doors, windows, frames, shutters, flooring, partitions, and fittings.

Unit of Measurement:

  • Cubic metre (m³) → for timber in frames, beams, posts.
  • Square metre (m²) → for shutters, paneling, boarding, flooring.
  • Running metre (RM) → for handrails, beads, mouldings.
  • Number (No.) → for furniture, cupboards, benches, etc.

Classification:

  • By type of timber: hardwood, softwood, teak, sal, deodar, etc.
  • By item category:
    • Frames (chowkats, posts, beams).
    • Shutters (panelled, glazed, flush, veneered).
    • Flooring, ceiling boards, partitions.
    • Furniture (cupboards, benches, counters).

Special Notes:

  • Measurement is finished size of work, not raw timber.
  • Small notches, rebates, chamfers ignored.
  • Fixtures & fastenings (hinges, screws, nails) included in rate.

Wastage allowed in rates (not measured separately).
