IS 1200 – Part 17: Steelwork and Ironwork

Scope:
Covers measurement of steel and iron works such as structural steel, gratings, gates, trusses, rolled sections, built-up sections, reinforcement, welding, and bolting.

Unit of Measurement:

  • Tonne (t) or kg → for structural steel.
  • → for sheet/plate works.
  • Running metre (RM) → for railings, handrails, rods, etc.
  • Number (No.) → for small fixtures like bolts, hinges, gratings, etc.

Classification:

  • Type of work:
    • Rolled steel sections.
    • Built-up sections.
    • Riveted/welded/bolted steelwork.
    • Roof trusses, lattice girders.
    • Gates, railings, grills, gratings.
  • Surface treatment: painted, galvanized, anodized.

Special Notes:

  • Weight of bolts, rivets, nuts, washers included in steel weight.
  • Welding material, shop connections → included.
  • No deduction for holes, rivet/bolt holes.
  • Wastage and cutting allowances covered in rates.
