IS 1200 – Part 16: Woodwork and Joinery

Scope:
Covers measurement of carpentry, joinery, wooden doors, windows, frames, partitions, shutters, trusses, and fittings.

Unit of Measurement:

  • for structural woodwork (trusses, beams, posts, joists).
  • for shutters, partitions, paneling.
  • Running metres for handrails, beads, battens.
  • Number (No.) for doors/windows if measured per unit.

Classification:

  • By timber type: teak, sal, pine, plywood, particle board, MDF.
  • By item type:
    • Structural wood (joists, beams, rafters).
    • Joinery items (frames, shutters, partitions, cupboards).
  • By finish: painted, polished, veneered, laminated.

Deductions:

  • No deductions for holes ≤0.05 m².
  • Bigger openings → deducted.

Special Notes:

  • Frames measured overall length × breadth × thickness.
  • Joints, mouldings, rebates → included in measurement.
  • Metal fittings like hinges, locks, handles measured separately.
