IS 1200 – Part 14: Painting, Polishing, Varnishing, Enamelling

Scope:
Deals with measurement of painting and finishing works on wood, steel, concrete, plastered surfaces, etc.

Unit of Measurement:

  • for area painting.
  • Running metres for narrow widths (≤10 cm) such as railings, handrails.
  • Number (No.) for items like doors, windows, grills, etc. when measured per piece.

Classification:

  • By surface type:
    • Woodwork.
    • Steelwork.
    • Plastered/concrete/masonry.
  • By type of paint/polish:
    • Oil paint, synthetic enamel, French polish, wax polish, varnish, aluminium paint.
  • By number of coats.

Deductions:

  • Openings >0.5 m² deducted.
  • Small openings ≤0.5 m² ignored.

Special Notes:

  • Special finishes (gold leaf, aluminium, epoxy, fire-retardant coatings) → measured separately.
  • Cost of primer coats → included with finishing unless specified.
