IS 1200 – Part 12: Plastering & Pointing

1) Scope

Internal/external plaster (single/double coat), ceiling plaster, sand-faced, roughcast, pointing to brick/stone.

2) Units

  • (area)
  • m (bands/grooves where specified)

3) Main Rules

  • Classify by mix (e.g., CM 1:4, 1:5), thickness (12/15/20 mm), location (internal/external/ceiling).
  • Scaffolding generally separate (per contract practice).
  • Bands, drip moulds, grooves measured separately if specified.

4) Deductions

  • Openings >0.5 m²deduct full area.
  • No deduction for:
    • Ends of beams/rails ≤0.5 m².
    • Jambs, sills, soffits of openings ≤0.5 m² (measured separately if to be plastered).

5) Special Notes

  • Double coat stated with breakdown (undercoat/finish).
  • Waterproofing compound measured by weight/litre separately if required.

6) Example

Internal plaster CM 1:6, 12 mm on walls: gross 420 m². Doors/windows 30 nos @ 1.2×2.1 = 75.6 m² → deduct (since >0.5 m² each). Net = 344.4 m². Jambs/soffits measured separately (say 2×(1.2+2.1)×0.1×30).
