IS 1200 – Part 10: Carpentry & Joinery (Timber Works)

1) Scope

Doors, windows, frames, shutters, partitions, trusses, panelling, built-in furniture.

2) Units

  • (frames/solid sections)
  • (panelled/flush shutters)
  • m (beadings/architraves)
  • No. (fittings where specified)

3) Main Rules

  • Classify by timber species/grade, section sizes, finish (painted/polished).
  • Frames in (section × perimeter length); shutters in (clear opening size).
  • Fittings (hinges/locks) included or separate as per BOQ.

4) Deductions

  • Openings are inherent; measure by specified rule (clear size).
  • Small cutouts for hardware ignored.

5) Special Notes

  • Preservative treatment separate if specified.
  • Glazing/wire mesh measured separately if not included.

6) Example

Door frame 100×75 mm, opening 1.0×2.1 m → perimeter 2(1+2.1)=6.2 m; volume = 0.1×0.075×6.2= 0.0465 m³. Shutter 35 mm flush: 2.10 m².
